However, the company's marketing enthusiasm and the ensuing client demand soon generated business for OHS statewide, then nationally, then internationally (England, Canada, Bermuda, Puerto Rico). However, very often, the sub-contractors OHS hired to perform drug and alcohol testing for their local or national clients were found to be unreliable, or unskilled, or (much too often) "both". The SATP Program was virtually created out of desperation: to fulfill what OHS discovered to be a serious, universal, and pressing need for highly trained, skilled, and reliable substance abuse testing professionals. The SATP Training Program is designed to fill that need. In addition to all the necessary "technical" skills taught, a substantial amount of "business operations" and "marketing" training is included in the eight day curriculum. This gives the SATP Graduate enough business "savvy" to open and operate his/her own business, from home, in his/her own city. | | Program Description: | Occupational Health Services (OHS) began business without any Industry-specific drug and alcohol testing experience on the part of either the husband-wife co-founders, Jean and Ed Poole, and without a single client. Within six months, along with several small companies (fewer than 500 employees), OHS had also added to their client roster pieces of such large regional companies as the City of Los Angeles, and such national companies as Chevron USA. Jean and Ed, along with five (5) other expert instructors now teach a specialized business course -- the SATP Program -- that shares with their Enrollees the marketing skill and technical know-how essential to operating a home-based business that will attract these same type clients for them in that same short time in the SATP Graduate's own city, county, or state. | | Business Components: | The SATP Program is designed to provide the individual preferring a "home-based" business with the option of keeping their business expansion "local," or, developing their business to be regional, national, and even international in scope. The core business of an SATP is employee drug and alcohol-abuse prevention screening (testing), performed "on-site", that is, at the client company's offices, warehouse, ship or air or truck terminals or other job site. A 1996 national survey found that 77.6% of our largest U.S. Corporations have a drug and alcohol-abuse prevention program in place. Further, by federal law, 8.2 million employees of companies regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) are currently required to be regularly subject to testing (testing is paid for by their employers) for drug and alcohol abuse. Further, state legislation in Florida, Georgia, and other states, and most recently in Ohio provide employers with the incentive of up to 20% discount on their worker's compensation premiums simply for having a company-sponsored drug prevention program in place. The SATP Program ensures that the important DOT regulations related to drug testing are well covered in Training, and that the DOT-require training curriculum for breath-alcohol technician and screening test technician certifications are also strictly followed.
